WHEREAS, Blake Corum, proud son of Marshall and star running back of the University of Michigan football team, led his team to a National Collegiate Athletic Association College Football Playoff National Championship title in 2023; and

WHEREAS, growing up in Marshall, Blake Corum spent countless days running barefoot around his grandfather’s farm, where he developed a deep appreciation for hard work and kindled dreams of football greatness; and

WHEREAS, after excelling in the youth football leagues around Marshall, Blake Corum and his family drove four hours every day so he could attend the football powerhouse Saint Frances Academy in Baltimore, which would ultimately lead to a scholarship to the University of Michigan; and

WHEREAS, with the ability to run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, Blake Corum’s stellar play was an integral part of the University of Michigan Wolverines’ national championship victory and undefeated season in 2023; and

WHEREAS, Blake Corum ran for 27 rushing touchdowns in the 2023 season, which was the most among Football Bowl Subdivision players for the season and set a University of Michigan program record; and

WHEREAS, in the Michigan Wolverines’ College Football Playoff semifinal win over the University of Alabama, Blake Corum ran for 83 yards and scored the winning touchdown on a 17-yard run in overtime; and

WHEREAS, in the 2024 national championship game against the University of Washington, Blake Corum ran for 134 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s dominant 34–13 win, earning the game’s Most Valuable Player honors; and

WHEREAS, College Sports Communicators in association with The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization presented Blake Corum with the Comeback Player of the Year Award in 2023; he also received National Collegiate Athletic Association All-America honors in 2022 and 2023; and

WHEREAS, Blake Corum has excelled off the football field as well, graduating with a 4.0 grade point average while demonstrating the virtues of servant leadership through his unwavering commitment to give back to the community; and

WHEREAS, to the delight of football fans the world over, Blake Corum has declared his intention to enter the 2024 draft of the National Football League, taking the next step in his storied football career; and

WHEREAS, Blake Corum has displayed great character and integrity both on and off the field, earning the praise and admiration of all Virginians; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Blake Corum, a treasured member of the Marshall community, hereby be commended for winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Association College Football Playoff National Championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Blake Corum as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his accomplishments and best wishes for his continued success in the National Football League.
