HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 116
Celebrating the life of Linda B. Jones.
 
Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 19, 2024
 

WHEREAS, Linda B. Jones, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and member of the Williamsburg community, died on January 16, 2024; and

WHEREAS, born and raised in Whitakers, North Carolina, Linda Jones graduated from Swift Creek High School in 1963 before moving to New Jersey to start a career in retail; and

WHEREAS, Linda Jones’ love for children led her to open a daycare service in her home in New Jersey and she went on to raise and care for an untold number of young people over more than three decades; and

WHEREAS, after closing her daycare, Linda Jones settled in Williamsburg and soon thereafter brought her cooking talents to her work as a nutrition assistant at D.J. Montague Elementary School and at Golden Corral; and

WHEREAS, Linda Jones cultivated her passion for cooking throughout her life, whether by hosting big family meals or experimenting with new recipes, bringing joy to all those who had the good fortune to be served by her; and

WHEREAS, deeply rooted in her faith, Linda Jones enjoyed worship and fellowship with her community at New Zion Baptist Church in Williamsburg, where she served in the usher ministry; and

WHEREAS, Linda Jones will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by her loving husband, Garland; her children, Sandra, Camila, and Andrea, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Linda B. Jones, a cherished member of the Williamsburg community whose grace, kindness, and generosity left a profound and lasting impact on countless lives; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Linda B. Jones as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for her memory.
