24100780DWHEREAS, Rick Cormany, who achieved the second most wins by a boys’ high school basketball coach in Virginia High School League history, retired as the head coach of the Radford High School boys’ basketball team in 2023; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his exceptional 40-year career as a head coach, Rick Cormany compiled a 773–249 record, beginning at Rocky Gap High School in Bland County in 1983; he subsequently coached at Grayson County High School from 1989 to 1993, when he became head coach of the boys’ basketball team at Radford High School; and
WHEREAS, Rick Cormany amassed 609 of his career wins during his tenure with Radford High School and led the Radford High School Bobcats to their first state title in 60 years in 2009; and
WHEREAS, Rick Cormany led the Radford Bobcats to five additional state championship victories in 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2019, when the team finished the season with a perfect 30–0 record; and
WHEREAS, under Rick Cormany’s leadership, the Radford Bobcats also won 12 regional championships, 16 district tournament championships, and 22 district regular season titles; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of his legacy of contributions to the school and to countless student athletes over the years, Rick Cormany was inducted into the Radford High School Hall of Fame in 2021; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rick Cormany on the occasion of his well-earned retirement as a high school basketball head coach; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rick Cormany as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his outstanding accomplishments as a head coach and trusted mentor to generations of students.
