2024 SESSION
WHEREAS, Grant Holloway, an outstanding track and field athlete who grew up in Chesapeake, broke his own world record in the 60-meter hurdles event at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships in January 2024; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Grassfield High School in Chesapeake, Grant Holloway attended the University of Florida, where he was a standout member of both the indoor and outdoor track and field teams, and has achieved great success as a professional athlete over the past several years; and
WHEREAS, at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in New Mexico, Grant Holloway ran the 60-meter hurdles race in 7.27 seconds, shaving two-hundreths of a second off his previous world record; and
WHEREAS, Grant Holloway has been undefeated in the 60-meter hurdles race since 2014, and after notching the win at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships, he continued the incredible winning streak at the Glasgow Indoor World Championship in March 2024 with yet another victory in the 60-meter hurdles; and
WHEREAS, Grant Holloway previously won gold medals at the 2019, 2022, and 2023 International Association of Athletics Federations World Athletics Championships, and he won a silver medal in the men’s 110-meter hurdles event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Grant Holloway for breaking his own world record in the 60-meter hurdles event at the 2024 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Grant Holloway as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his exceptional athletic achievements and best wishes for the future.
