WHEREAS, for 20 years, the KORUS Festival has celebrated Korean American heritage while building unity and promoting cultural exchange between attendees of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities; and
WHEREAS, hosted by the Korean American Association of Greater Washington Metropolitan Area, the KORUS Festival derives its name from an amalgamation of Korea and the United States, symbolizing the way Korean immigrant communities have grown and thrived in the American melting pot; and
WHEREAS, the KORUS Festival offers a wide range of events, programs, and cultural exhibitions that enrich the lives of Korean Americans and create an inclusive atmosphere for members of the broader community to learn about different perspectives and traditions; and
WHEREAS, the KORUS Festival features food and retail vendors, games, children’s activities, and live performances, including marital arts, traditional dancing, and music from a wide range of genres; and
WHEREAS, the KORUS Festival is designed with people of all ages, interests, and abilities in mind, which gives all attendees an opportunity to build strong bonds based on shared values and celebrate the diversity of the region through open dialogue and meaningful interactions; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the KORUS Festival on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Steve Lee, president of the Korean American Association of Greater Washington Metropolitan Area, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the festival’s vital role in promoting unity, multiculturalism, interconnectedness, and cultural understanding.
