WHEREAS, in 2023, Marceline Castrillon, a senior at Wakefield High School, became the first-ever student from Arlington Public Schools to win a National Gold for Portfolio at the Scholastic Awards for Art and Writing; and
WHEREAS, the Scholastic Awards for Art and Writing recognizes teenagers in seventh grade through 12th grade for their literary and artistic achievements; Marceline Castrillon was one of 100,000 students across the country who submitted 260,000 works of art and writing; and
WHEREAS, Marceline Castrillon’s portfolio, “A Swan is Born,” which features artistic works inspired by the stories of Swan Lake and the Ugly Duckling, was one of only 2,000 total entries to win a national medal in 2023 and one of only eight portfolios to win a gold medal; and
WHEREAS, as a gold medal winner, Marceline Castrillon received a scholarship award along with her national accolades; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Marceline Castrillon for her outstanding achievements as a national gold medalist in the 2023 Scholastic Awards for Art and Writing; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marceline Castrillon as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her talents and best wishes for the future.
