24108558DWHEREAS, for 70 years, Annandale High School, an outstanding public secondary school in Fairfax County, has given young people the tools to become engaged, lifelong learners and to achieve success in higher education and careers and become good citizens of the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, Annandale High School opened on September 1, 1954, and was one of many schools developed to address the significant growth of the region after World War II; and
WHEREAS, Annandale High School and the Annandale community derived their names from a location in Scotland, as well as the English Lord of Annandale; and
WHEREAS, Annandale High School values and celebrates diversity and has been recognized for its high level of racial and cultural diversity since the 1980s, and the current student body represents dozens of countries and spoken languages; and
WHEREAS, Annandale High School proudly fosters a sense of belonging for all of its students and ensures that all of them have the knowledge they need to thrive in a global society; and
WHEREAS, Annandale High School offers a rigorous academic curriculum and many opportunities for sports and extracurricular activities, empowering students to achieve their fullest potential in and out of the classroom; and
WHEREAS, the faculty and staff of Annandale High School work diligently with local partners to create opportunities for students to further their academic growth and become more engaged with the community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Annandale High School on the occasion of its 70th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Annandale High School as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s contributions to the Fairfax County community.
