WHEREAS, Matthew Fontaine Maury High School has shown an extraordinary commitment to computer science education and diversity; and

WHEREAS, Maury High School has been a pioneer in computer science education, offering courses in cyber security, information technology fundamentals, and Advanced Placement (AP) computer science; and

WHEREAS, Maury High School has been acknowledged for its dedication to diversity in computer science, with Maury High School winning the College Board’s AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award in 2019, 2022, and 2023; and

WHEREAS, Maury High School’s computer science courses integrate technology in their classrooms, emphasizing programming languages and real-world applications, such as securing computer networks and preventing hacking attempts; and

WHEREAS, Maury High School is committed to fostering women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers by encouraging enrollment and success in computer science courses; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Matthew Fontaine Maury High School for its commitment to computer science education and diversity; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Karen Berg, principal of Matthew Fontaine Maury High School, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the school’s contributions to educating students in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and its appreciation for the school’s efforts to cultivate women leaders in these fields and to continue to expand and enhance computer science education and career opportunities for all students.
