WHEREAS, the Honorable L. Kaye Kory, member of the Virginia House of Delegates representing the 38th District in Fairfax County from January 13, 2010, until January 10, 2024, has greatly served the citizens of Fairfax County and the Commonwealth over an illustrious career in public office; and

WHEREAS, born in Chicago, Kaye Kory settled in Northern Virginia in 1984, where she soon became involved with a number of local community organizations, including the Montessori School of Northern Virginia and the parent-teacher associations at her children’s schools; and

WHEREAS, after winning a special election for the Mason District seat on the Fairfax County School Board in 1999, Kaye Kory went on to win three subsequent regular elections over the next decade and to serve the interests of the students, parents, faculty, and schools of Fairfax County until 2009 when she was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates; and

WHEREAS, as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, Kaye Kory served on the Finance Committee, the Labor and Commerce Committee, the Public Safety Committee, what was formerly the Science and Technology Committee, the General Laws Committee, and the Counties, Cities and Towns Committee, on which she served as chair, while advocating tirelessly in support of issues impacting transportation, education, the environment, and criminal justice reform; and

WHEREAS, Kaye Kory founded the Women’s Healthcare Caucus, the Animal Welfare Caucus, and the New Americans Caucus during her tenure in the Virginia House of Delegates; and

WHEREAS, Kaye Kory has assisted various groups and organizations in leadership capacities over the years, such as the Annandale Chamber of Commerce, the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, and the NAACP; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Kaye Kory brought her community-first approach to her work as a counselor for troubled youth; as a volunteer with Volunteers In Service to America (VISTA), a predecessor of AmeriCorps; as a program manager for a community area agency on aging; as executive director of the Saunders B. Moon Senior Citizens Center in Fairfax County; and as a program analyst for the Fairfax County Department of Community Action; and

WHEREAS, before she turned her attention full-time to her work as a delegate, Kaye Kory enjoyed a successful career in policy and program management for global governance, acquiring skills and experience that would prove valuable at the Virginia State Capitol; and

WHEREAS, in her retirement from the Virginia House of Delegates, Kaye Kory will have greater opportunities to spend quality time with her husband, Ross, and her three children; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Honorable L. Kaye Kory for her service to the Commonwealth; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable L. Kaye Kory as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for her contributions to the Commonwealth and best wishes in her future endeavors.
