WHEREAS, Michelle Antonette Leete, a passionate champion for civil rights, equity, and social justice, who was serving as president of the Fairfax County Branch of the NAACP, died on January 4, 2024; and

WHEREAS, a native of Portsmouth, Michelle Leete received a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Elizabeth City State University and a master’s degree from Villanova University; she subsequently earned a master of business administration degree in strategic leadership from Amberton University; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Leete began her career at the New York Stock Exchange, then supported the maintenance, operation, development, and preservation of the United States Capitol Complex as a member of the Office of the Architect of the Capitol for 17 years; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Leete was well-known for her incredible organizational skills and could take command of any situation through her proactive management style; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Leete settled in Alexandria, where she was an active participant in local education, serving on parent-teacher associations at Weyanoke Elementary School, Holmes Middle School, and Edison High School; she also served as vice president of the Virginia PTA and the Fairfax County Council PTA; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Leete’s true calling was civic leadership, and she supported reform in housing, education, criminal justice, and environmental and economic policies for the betterment of all; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Leete was the longest-serving board member of the Fairfax County Branch of the NAACP and had previously served as treasurer; she inspired others through her determined advocacy and genuine commitment to enhancing community life and was elected as president in 2023; and

WHEREAS, predeceased by her son, Myles, Michelle Leete will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her daughter, Sydney; her mother, Lynda; and numerous other family members and friends; and

WHEREAS, Michelle Leete is to be noted in the archives of the Commonwealth of Virginia for her leadership in transforming her community, the Commonwealth, and our nation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Michelle Antonette Leete, the highly admired president of the Fairfax County Branch of the NAACP; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michelle Antonette Leete as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
