HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 132
Celebrating the life of Lila V. Branscome.

WHEREAS, Lila V. Branscome, a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and beloved member of her local community, died peacefully on December 6, 2023, in Woodbridge; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome was born Lila Victoria Brady on April 3, 1932, in Carroll County; she married the love of her life, Julius L. Branscome, on November 18, 1950, whereupon they embarked on a loving 73-year marriage; and

WHEREAS, in 1960, Lila and Julius Branscome moved to Prince William County, where she supported her husband’s efforts to start a successful asphalt business; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome was a devoted mother to her children, Tommy, Kathy, and David, and instilled in them important values such as faith and hard work; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome was a devout Christian and a charter member of the Central Baptist Church of Woodbridge, where she attended services for more than 60 years, and where she taught Sunday School to girls in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome viewed her friends at Central Baptist Church as her extended family and was known for having a positive and profound impact on the many lives she touched; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome was preceded in death by her husband, Julius L. Branscome; her son, Tommy Branscome; her parents, Thomas Sears Brady and Fannie Lillian Quesenberry Brady; and her siblings, Lorraine Nicely, Melvin Brady, Arlis Brady, Howard Brady, Donald Brady, and Verlyn Brady; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome is survived by her children, Kathy Bowman and David Branscome, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Lila Branscome will also be missed by countless friends who knew her to be a woman of great character and compassion; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Lila V. Branscome, a devoted wife, mother, and community servant in Woodbridge; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lila V. Branscome as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
