SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

Department of Health; Department of General Services; newborn screening program; funding; work group. Directs the Department of Health and the Department of General Services to convene a work group to evaluate the current funding model for the Commonwealth's newborn screening program. The bill directs the Departments to report their findings and recommendations to the General Assembly by December 1, 2023.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:

Newborn screening tests; Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services; fees prohibited. Provides that required newborn screening tests shall be performed at no cost to parents, guardians, hospitals or health care providers. The bill prohibits the Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services or any other laboratory the Department of Health has contracted with to provide such service from charging a fee to hospitals or health care providers to perform the screening tests and prohibits hospitals and health care providers from charging a fee to an infant's parent or guardian to perform the screening tests.
