23105155DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (the Council) shall convene a work group consisting of the Director of the Council or his designee, the Director of the Virginia Office of Education Economics, the Director of Transfer of the Virginia Community College System (the System), the Chancellor of the System, the Deputy Secretary of Higher Education, the Chair of the Virginia Board of Workforce Development, three presidents of community colleges in the Commonwealth or their designees, three presidents of baccalaureate public institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth or their designees, and the Chairs of the House Committee on Education, the Senate Committee on Education and Health, the Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education, and the House Subcommittee on Higher Education, for the purpose of making recommendations on and developing a plan for expanding the Get Skilled, Get a Job, Get Ahead (G3) Program. The work group shall elect one of its members to serve as the chair of the work group. The work group shall also include staff of the House Committee on Appropriations and the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations. In making its recommendations and developing its plan, the work group shall (i) develop the process and metrics by which curricular degree programs are selected for the G3 program, (ii) identify transfer degree programs for the G3 Program that are best aligned with the workforce needs of the Commonwealth, (iii) identify any additional one-year and two-year degree programs for the G3 Program that are best aligned with the workforce needs of the Commonwealth, and (iv) develop a plan for the implementation of the expanded G3 Program. The work group shall submit a report on its recommendations and plan for the expansion of the G3 Program to the Chairmen of the House Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Education and Health by October 1, 2024.
