23104082DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That the Department of Medical Assistance Services and the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) shall convene a work group, including representatives of community services boards (CSB), local departments of social services (LDSS), the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, the Arc of Virginia, the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities, the Department of Education, the Board of Education, and other relevant stakeholders. The work group shall study methods for and develop recommendations for ensuring that (i) individuals who seek information about Intellectual/Developmental Disability (I/DD) services consistently receive referrals to the CSB and behavioral health authorities (BHA) and receive consistent information from CSBs and BHAs about such services, (ii) students with disabilities are made aware of services and supports, (iii) CSB and LDSS intake staff are made aware of the Navigating the DD Waiver Manual (the manual), (iv) the manual is provided to individuals with I/DD and their families, and (v) DBHDS produces the manual in languages other than English and engages with representatives from the communities where the languages are spoken to ensure that the translations are culturally and context appropriate. The work group shall report its findings and recommendations to the Chairmen of the Senate Committees on Finance and Appropriations and Education and Health and the House Committees on Appropriations and Health, Welfare and Institutions by October 1, 2023.
