23105968DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. § 1. That the Department of Criminal Justice Services, in conjunction with the Virginia Association of Regional Jails and the Virginia Sheriffs' Association, shall convene a workgroup to investigate the implementation of locally administered jail-based addiction recovery and substance use disorder treatment and transition programs in local and regional jails. The analysis shall include an examination of the prevalence of substance use disorders in local and regional jails, the current availability of jail-based addiction recovery and substance use disorder treatment and transition programs in local and regional jails, and the availability of funds to support such existing programs and the implementation of new treatment and transition programs. The Department of Criminal Justice Services shall complete its work and submit a report to the Chairmen of the House Committee on Finance and the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations no later than November 1, 2023.
