Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 23.1-2911.3 as follows:

§ 23.1-2911.3. Standardized Health Care Academy Program.

A. The State Board shall establish the Standardized Health Care Academy Program (the Program) for the purpose of providing training and opportunities to high school students in health care professional programs that are offered by associate-degree-granting public institutions of higher education.

B. A student that meets the definition of "eligible student" pursuant to the Get Skilled, Get a Job, Give Back Program (G3 Program) established in § 23.1-2911.2 and meets the other requirements for the G3 Program shall receive G3 funding to cover his tuition. If a student does not meet the definition of "eligible student," the school shall pay for tuition with the per pupil state and local funds appropriated for public school purposes and apportioned to the school division for such student. The school shall also provide transportation for students to and from the associate-degree-granting institutions at which such students take courses.

C. The State Board shall work with the Department of Education to (i) map pathways for students beginning in the eighth grade to ensure that such students are academically prepared to enter the Program as juniors in high school; (ii) determine eligibility criteria for students desiring to enroll in the Program; (iii) determine how course credits that students receive from the associate-degree-granting institution shall be counted toward such student's high school diploma and diploma or credential from the associate-degree-granting institution; and (iv) determine and develop any other parameters of the Program as needed.
