HOUSE BILL NO. 1298 AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by the House Committee on General Laws on February 10, 2022) (Patron Prior to Substitute--Delegate Price) A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22.1-5.2, relating to high school student-athletes; compensation for name, image, or likeness.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-5.2 as follows:

§ 22.1-5.2. Athletics; high school student-athletes; compensation for name, image, or likeness.

No high school student-athlete who participates in an athletic competition shall enter into any contract to receive compensation in exchange for the use of such student's name, image, or likeness.
