21102658DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 9.1-207.2 as follows:
§ 9.1-207.2. Prohibition on use of certain oriented strand board.
A. As used in this section:
"Class A fuel materials" includes wood, straw, and paper products.
"Fire [ service ] training
activities" includes fire service training schools and flashover
simulators.
"Local government" includes any locality, fire district, regional fire protection authority, or other special purpose district that provides firefighting services.
"Oriented strand board" means [ engineered
] wood products [ containing poly-methylene diphenyl diisocyanate,
which release toxic by-products when burned manufactured with
adhesives and wood strands ] .
B. No person, local government, or agency of the
Commonwealth shall [ use burn ] Class A fuel
materials that contain oriented strand board during [ live ] fire
[ service ] training activities.
C. No provision of this section shall restrict the manufacture, sale, use, or distribution of Class A fuel materials that contain oriented strand board for other fire or local government operations.
