21100548DBe it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That § 3.1 of Chapters 398 and 520 of the Acts of Assembly of 2009 is amended and reenacted as follows:
§ 3.1. Election, qualification,
and term of office of councilmen council members and mayor.
(a) The town of Nassawadox shall be governed by a town council
composed of six councilmen council
members and a mayor, all of whom shall be qualified voters
of the town to be elected from the town at large.
(b) The mayor and councilmen council members in office at
the time of the passage of this act a scheduled election shall
continue in office until their successors are elected and qualified. An election for mayor and councilmen shall be held
on the first Tuesday in May, in 2010, and on the first Tuesday in May of every
even-numbered year thereafter. The council members and mayor so elected shall
take office on the first day of the following July, and shall each serve until
their successors are elected and have qualified The election for mayor and council members shall
take place on the Tuesday following the first Monday in November
every even-numbered year. The mayor and council members shall serve two-year terms.
The terms of office for those so elected shall commence on January
1 immediately following said election.
(c) No mayor or council
member of council shall be an
employee of the town, and
upon the qualification of any such person for such position, his employment
with the town shall cease.
