HOUSE BILL NO. 308 AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by the House Committee on Education on January 29, 2020) (Patron Prior to Substitute--Delegate Hope) A BILL to require the Department of Education to establish and school boards to implement guidelines for the granting of excused absences to students due to mental or behavioral health.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The Department of Education shall establish and distribute to each school board no later than August 1, 2020, guidelines for the granting of an excused absence from school to a student due to his mental or behavioral health. Any student who is absent from school due to his mental or behavioral health shall be granted, subject to such guidelines, an excused absence.
