Commending Omicron Chi Omega.

WHEREAS, Omicron Chi Omega, a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, is an active part of the Prince William County community, dedicated to making a positive impact on society and continuing the sorority’s mission of “service to all mankind”; and

WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority has existed for 111 years and has 1,024 chapters and nearly 300,000 members in more than 55 nations and all 50 states; Omicron Chi Omega has served Prince William County and the surrounding communities for 34 years; and

WHEREAS, Omicron Chi Omega was chartered on May 19, 1985, under the leadership of Barbara W. Davis; and

WHEREAS, Omicron Chi Omega hosts a variety of local programs in conjunction with the Ivy Foundation of Greater Prince William County, Inc., including the Little Miss AKA Pageant, Gospel Fest, and the Big Hat Brunch; and

WHEREAS, Omicron Chi Omega has received many local community awards as well as national recognition for its involvement in the Back to School/Stay in School program, Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Service, and Action in Community Through Service, and its support for the American Heart Association; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Omicron Chi Omega hereby be commended on the occasion of its 34th anniversary in 2019; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Omicron Chi Omega as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the organization’s legacy of service to the community.
