SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:
Enterprise zones. Changes from two to three for an enterprise zone designated on or after July 1, 2005, and from two to one for an enterprise zone designated prior to July 1, 2005, the number of times the Governor may renew a five-year designation of an enterprise zone upon recommendation of the Director of the Department of Housing and Community Development. This bill is identical to SB 1785.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Enterprise zone designations. Increases the maximum number of enterprise zones from 30 to 50. The measure also authorizes the Governor to renew an enterprise zone designation for an additional five years if (i) the initial 10-year designation period and the two five-year renewal periods have expired and (ii) the locality in which the zone is located scores below the statewide average on any two of the three distress factors used when determining locality-wide need and impact of a zone designation.
