2018 SPECIAL SESSION I
18200247DWHEREAS, Agenda: Alexandria, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that promotes civic engagement by hosting presentations on important issues, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Agenda: Alexandria was established in 1998 by a group of local residents seeking to provide opportunities for thoughtful, timely, and respectful discourse on issues facing the Alexandria community; and
WHEREAS, each year, Agenda: Alexandria carefully selects a bipartisan board of directors and selects speakers who present different viewpoints on a wide range of topics, including city budget planning, transportation, education, history, preservation, waterfront development, arts and culture, the environment, aging in place, and public safety; and
WHEREAS, with at least eight dinner meetings and presentations each year, Agenda: Alexandria has hosted more than 160 civil, thought-provoking dialogues, featuring more than 500 speakers; and
WHEREAS, throughout its two-decade history, Agenda: Alexandria and its countless participants have demonstrated the importance and benefits of civic engagement and community spirit; and
WHEREAS, Agenda: Alexandria will commemorate its 20th anniversary with a reunion of founders, members, current and former board members, and supporters to celebrate their shared love of the City of Alexandria; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Agenda: Alexandria hereby be commended for its work to keep Alexandrians informed on important issues on the occasion of its 20th anniversary; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Donna James, executive director of Agenda: Alexandria, as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the organization’s efforts to strengthen the community.
