2018 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, Volunteer Alexandria, a nonprofit community resource organization that promotes the value of volunteerism through partnerships with other nonprofits, government agencies, and local businesses, will hold its 20th Annual Business Philanthropy Summit on May 30, 2018; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1980, Volunteer Alexandria plays a critical role in the community by directing volunteers to the organizations and agencies that need them most, allowing Alexandrians to give back to their fellow residents in a meaningful, effective way; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer Alexandria’s Business Philanthropy Summit brings together approximately 250 business and nonprofit organizations to discuss community needs and goals and celebrate local philanthropists; and
WHEREAS, the Business Philanthropy Summit is part of Spring for Alexandria, a celebration of giving organized by Volunteer Alexandria, in partnership with the City of Alexandria; and
WHEREAS, proceeds from the Business Philanthropy Summit benefit Volunteer Alexandria’s year-round programming to mobilize a diverse array of volunteers, including seniors, youths, and the unemployed, to strengthen the community; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the Business Philanthropy Summit, Volunteer Alexandria’s annual Spring for Alexandria Community Service Day has since 2008 inspired thousands of volunteers to donate more than 21,700 hours of service, valued at more than $550,000; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer Alexandria has helped countless Alexandrians enrich their own lives and enhance the quality of life in the area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Volunteer Alexandria hereby be commended on the occasion of its 20th Annual Business Philanthropy Summit in 2018; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Volunteer Alexandria as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for the organization’s achievements.
