SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 527
Commending Andy Jacks.

 

Agreed to by the Senate, May 22, 2018
 

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks, an experienced public school administrator in Prince William County, was selected as Virginia’s 2018 National Distinguished Principal; and

WHEREAS, the National Distinguished Principals program recognizes exceptional elementary school and middle school administrators like Andy Jacks, who go above and beyond to ensure that children receive a strong foundation for lifelong learning; and

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks has been an educator for 13 years, beginning his career as a teacher at Kilby Elementary School; he later served as a summer school principal for Prince William County Public Schools and assistant principal of Buckland Mills Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks currently serves as principal of Ashland Elementary School, where he strives to build meaningful relationships with teachers, parents, and the community and has emphasized the use of technology in the classroom; and

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks implemented schoolwide computer coding and programming instruction and led Ashland Elementary School to become the first school in the district to develop a comprehensive social media strategy and the first school in the Commonwealth to participate in the STAR program, where students refurbish old computers for families in need; and  

WHEREAS, a student-centered leader, Andy Jacks works to ensure that all students feel valued on a personal level and take pride in their school and their educational outcomes; during his tenure as principal, Ashland Elementary School has developed a successful student-run media team to deliver announcements, conduct interviews with staff, and create video newsletters; and

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks has also given his students opportunities to serve members of the community through the Ashland Gives Back program and encouraged parents to participate in the learning process through the Watch D.O.G.S. program; and

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks is active with the Virginia Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Elementary School Principals, and he serves as director at large and a board member of the Autism Society of Northern Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Andy Jacks’ well-deserved honor was the second consecutive National Distinguished Principal Award for a Prince William County Public Schools administrator, a mark of the high caliber of educators in the school system and the amazing dedication they have for their students; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Andy Jacks hereby be commended on his selection as Virginia’s 2018 National Distinguished Principal; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Andy Jacks as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for his commitment to educational excellence and enhancing the learning experience of his students.
