SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 516
Commending Jacob Moore.

WHEREAS, Jacob Moore, an officer with the Buena Vista Police Department, went above and beyond in the course of his duties to rescue a couple and their dog from a house fire; and

WHEREAS, in March 2018, Jacob Moore, a southern Virginia native who has served with the Buena Vista Police Department for two years, responded to a report of a house fire on his own street; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Moore found one of the homeowners standing in the kitchen and escorted her to safety outside before reentering the home to find her husband; and

WHEREAS, after locating the man in the basement, Jacob Moore again bravely entered the home, crawling through thick smoke on the upper floor to reach the couple’s pet dog; and

WHEREAS, when the first team of firefighters reached the scene, Jacob Moore ably assisted with battling the fire by manning one of the hoses until additional firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Moore, who does not have firefighter training, had previously responded to a house fire in December 2017, saving that family as well; and

WHEREAS, Jacob Moore is an exemplar of the courage and dedication to the members of the community demonstrated by law-enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That Jacob Moore hereby be commended for his heroic efforts to save a couple and their dog from a house fire in 2018; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jacob Moore as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for his lifesaving actions.
