WHEREAS, Ted Schubel, an active community leader and an award-winning journalist, celebrates his 35th year in radio broadcasting in 2018; and

WHEREAS, a native of Port Hope, Michigan, Ted Schubel relocated to the Commonwealth and began his radio career with WJYJ; he currently serves as news director of B101.5 FM and WFVA AM; and

WHEREAS, as host of Town Talk with Ted Schubel, a one-hour news program airing Monday through Friday mornings, Ted Schubel promotes community engagement through interviews with civic officials, business leaders, and nonprofit organizers; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schubel has volunteered his time and leadership with a wide array of community initiatives, including the Special Olympics, National Park Service programs, mental and physical health awareness, high school athletics, and many others; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schubel has helped raise more than $377,000 for Children’s National Hospital, is a regular participant of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night event, and serves as the media representative on the King George County Local Emergency Planning Committee; and

WHEREAS, a keen student of history, Ted Schubel has attended and covered many events related to Virginia’s heritage, including the restoration of George Washington’s Ferry Farm and Stafford County’s 350th Anniversary celebration; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schubel also produced the award-winning documentary “9/11, Ten Years Stronger,” which aired on B101.5 and WFVA in 2011 and studied the effects of the attacks on the Fredericksburg area over a 10-year span; and

WHEREAS, Ted Schubel has received numerous Associated Press and Virginia Association of Broadcasters awards for his commitment to excellence in radio journalism; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Ted Schubel hereby be commended for his 35 years of service as a journalist; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Ted Schubel as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his contributions to the Fredericksburg community.
