HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 558
Commending Dora G. Wynn.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, April 17, 2018

 

WHEREAS, Dora G. Wynn, an outstanding educator and school administrator, retires in 2018 as superintendent of Brunswick County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, a passionate lifelong learner, Dora Wynn began her career in education as a teacher’s aide, substitute teacher, and bus driver for Brunswick County Public Schools from 1969 to 1978; she then served as a teacher at Park View Middle School and Totaro Elementary School; and

WHEREAS, Dora Wynn became principal of Totaro Elementary School in 1991, then served as assistant superintendent of Brunswick County Public Schools from 1998 until 2009, when she was appointed superintendent of Lunenburg County Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, in 2014, Dora Wynn returned to Brunswick County Public Schools to become the school district’s first female superintendent; her decades of experience helped her build strong relationships with students, parents, faculty, administrators, and staff and enhance the educational experience at all levels of the school district; and

WHEREAS, Dora Wynn has worked to strengthen the community as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Jack and Jill of America, the Southside Virginia Chapter of the Links Foundation, and the NAACP, and she is an active member of Mercy Seat RZUA Church; and

WHEREAS, Dora Wynn has earned numerous awards and accolades for her innovative leadership in education, including the Virginia School Boards Association’s Awards of Distinction from 2015 to 2017; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Dora G. Wynn hereby be commended for her exceptional leadership of Brunswick County Public Schools on the occasion of her retirement as superintendent in 2018; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Dora G. Wynn as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her commitment to academic excellence and service to the students of Brunswick County.
