2018 SPECIAL SESSION I
WHEREAS, in 2018, Clean the Bay Day, Inc., and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation will celebrate the 30th annual Clean the Bay Day; and
WHEREAS, established in 1989, Clean the Bay Day is an opportunity for Virginians to remove harmful litter and debris from the rivers, streams, and beaches of the Chesapeake Bay watershed on the first Saturday of every June; and
WHEREAS, Clean the Bay Day is a true Virginian tradition, bringing together people from all walks of life, families, military service members, businesses, clubs, civic organizations, and church groups to make local waterways cleaner, safer, and more beautiful; and
WHEREAS, over its 30-year history, Clean the Bay Day has had a massive cumulative effect, engaging more than 152,000 volunteers who have removed approximately 6.4 million pounds of debris from nearly 7,390 miles of shoreline; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Clean the Bay Day, Inc., hereby be commended for its positive impact on the Chesapeake Bay watershed on the occasion of the 30th Clean the Bay Day; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to Clean the Bay Day, Inc., and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the hard work of three decades of volunteers to protect and preserve the Commonwealth’s valuable natural resources on Clean the Bay Day.
