SUMMARY AS ENACTED WITH GOVERNOR'S RECOMMENDATION:
Death certificates; medical certification; electronic filing; hospice. Requires a licensed funeral director, funeral service licensee, or representative of the office of the state anatomical program who first assumes custody of a dead body to complete and file a certificate of death with the State Registrar of Vital Records using the Electronic Death Registration System and provides that when a death occurs under the care of a hospice provider, the medical certification shall be completed by the decedent's health care provider and filed electronically with the State Registrar of Vital Records using the Electronic Death Registration System for completion of the death certificate. The bill also provides that the medical certification may be completed by a physician licensed in another state who was in charge of the patient’s care for the illness or condition that resulted in death. This bill is identical to SB 309.

SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Death certificates; medical certification; electronic filing; hospice. Provides that in cases in which a death occurs under the care of a hospice provider that provides services to recipients of medical assistance services pursuant to the state plan for medical assistance services, the medical certification portion of a death certificate shall be filed electronically through the Electronic Death Registration System.
