Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. § 1. The Department of Transportation (Department) shall complete the initial design and related assessments for remediating the American Legion Bridge. In conducting its design and assessments, the Department shall consider the feasibility of adding additional lanes, expanding the use of HOV/HOT lanes, and reconstructing all or portions of the bridge. The Department shall also consult with the Commonwealth Transportation Board, the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, and the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority. All agencies of the Commonwealth shall provide assistance to the Department for its design and assessments, upon request.

The Department shall complete its meetings by November 30, 2018, and shall submit to the Governor and the General Assembly an executive summary and a report of its design and assessments for publication as a House or Senate document. The executive summary and report shall be submitted as provided in the procedures of the Division of Legislative Automated Systems for the processing of legislative documents and reports no later than the first day of the 2019 Regular Session of the General Assembly and shall be posted on the General Assembly's website.
