SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Battery; school sports officials; penalty. Treats persons serving as a sports official for an interscholastic sporting event involving a public or private elementary or secondary school who volunteer their services or are compensated by an entity other than a school as an employee of a school. Current law provides that battery against a school employee is punishable as a Class 1 misdemeanor with a 15-day sentence, two days of which shall be a mandatory minimum term of confinement, or, if the battery was committed by the use of a firearm or other weapon prohibited on school property, a six-month mandatory minimum term of confinement.
