16106236DWHEREAS, the Honorable Thomas E. Gallahue retires as a presiding judge of the Fairfax County General District Court on March 15, 2016; and
WHEREAS, a native of Fairfax County, Thomas Gallahue earned a bachelor’s degree from The Johns Hopkins University and a law degree from Catholic University; he was admitted to the bar in the Commonwealth, in Maryland, and in Washington, D.C.; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Gallahue served as an assistant attorney for the Commonwealth for Fairfax County before opening a general practice firm focusing on criminal and traffic defense, where he was well-served by his encyclopedic knowledge of the roads of Fairfax County; he also served as a principal of two law firms between 1988 and 1998; and
WHEREAS, on April 1, 1998, Thomas Gallahue was appointed as a judge of the Fairfax County General District Court of the 19th Judicial District of Virginia, where he presided with great fairness, independence, wisdom, compassion, and empathy for nearly 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Gallahue chaired the Fairfax Bar Association’s General District Court Committee for two years and offered his leadership and expertise to several other committees, receiving the association’s 1993–1994 President’s Award; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Gallahue has previously served as a commissioner on the Fairfax County Human Rights Commission; as a board member of Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources of Fairfax, Inc.; and as the Mount Vernon District representative to the Fairfax Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Citizens Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, Thomas Gallahue is an avid cyclist and has participated in numerous charitable bicycle rides; and
WHEREAS, a man of great integrity, Thomas Gallahue served Fairfax County and the Commonwealth with the utmost professionalism and dedication; after his well-earned retirement, he plans to seek new opportunities to serve the community and to spend more time with his wife, Sandra, and their daughter; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate of Virginia, That the Honorable Thomas E. Gallahue hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as a judge of the Fairfax County General District Court; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Honorable Thomas E. Gallahue as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s admiration for his service to Fairfax County and the Commonwealth.
