Celebrating the life of C. Robert Heath.

WHEREAS, C. Robert Heath, a proud veteran, respected businessman and dedicated public servant in the City of Harrisonburg, who worked to strengthen and enhance the community, died on December 2, 2015; and

WHEREAS, Robert “Bob” Heath grew up in the Singers Glen area of Harrisonburg and graduated from Harrisonburg High School; he served his country honorably as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, over the course of his four-year enlistment in the military, Bob Heath rose to the rank of staff sergeant, witnessed atomic weapons testing in the Nevada desert, and worked on a top-secret project involving the F-100 jet prototype; and

WHEREAS, Bob Heath began his professional career at S. B. Hoover and Co., before joining the Rockingham Group, which he helped grow into a large, state-wide corporation offering multiple types of insurance; he retired as chief executive officer and member of the board of Rockingham Group after more than 35 years of service; and

WHEREAS, highly respected in the insurance field, Bob Heath was a board member of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies for 16 years and earned the organization’s Service Award and Merit Award; in addition he offered his expertise to the Virginia Association of Mutual Insurance Companies as president and executive secretary; and

WHEREAS, Bob Heath carried on a proud family legacy of public service as a former mayor and city council member in Harrisonburg; he oversaw the creation of the first Harrisonburg Comprehensive Plan, which established guidelines for 20 years of responsible growth and development in the city; and

WHEREAS, Bob Heath volunteered his time and wise leadership as president of the Massanutten Property Owners Association and director of the Rotary Club of Harrisonburg; and

WHEREAS, a man who lived his faith through his actions, Bob Heath enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community as a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and was a trustee and chair of the administrative board; and

WHEREAS, Bob Heath will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Norma; children, Holly and Hank, and their families; and numerous other family members, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of C. Robert Heath, a veteran, public servant, and pillar of the Harrisonburg community; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of C. Robert Heath as an expression of the Senate of Virginia’s respect for his memory.
