2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Faye Eubank, who admirably served the people of Bedford County throughout her working life, retired as the county’s commissioner of the revenue on December 31, 2015; and
WHEREAS, when she was 19, Faye Eubank became a part-time employee in the office of the Bedford County Commissioner of the Revenue; in 1968, less than one year after she began working for the county, she was named a deputy in the office; and
WHEREAS, Faye Eubank was elected commissioner of the revenue for Bedford County in 1991, and many changes have occurred since then; the county’s tax base has changed as Smith Mountain Lake became a major economic force and farming assumed a smaller role in the local economy; and
WHEREAS, Faye Eubank supervised many changes in the office of the commissioner of the revenue; bookkeeping machines and punch cards were replaced by a massive mainframe computer; now, personal computers and printers are commonplace; and
WHEREAS, obtaining information from the commissioner of the revenue’s office has become more efficient for the public during Faye Eubank’s 23 years at the helm; information is available online, and individuals also can receive help via phone or email, or through the mail; and
WHEREAS, Faye Eubank found that one of the most rewarding parts of her work in the commissioner of the revenue’s office was helping county taxpayers who sought help in person, and she always encouraged her staff to work with members of the public until an issue was resolved; and
WHEREAS, for Faye Eubank, going to work was a pleasure; she greatly enjoyed what she did and the interactions with the staff, county officials, and the public; she also credited her hardworking staff members for ensuring the smooth functioning of the department; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Faye Eubank, who has admirably and faithfully worked for the people of Bedford County for 48 years, hereby be commended on the occasion of her retirement as commissioner of the revenue; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Faye Eubank as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect and admiration for her many years of service and best wishes in retirement.
