16102666DWHEREAS, Woody Henderson retired as Chief of the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department on January 1, 2016, after four decades of diligent service to the community; and
WHEREAS, over the course of his 40-year career in public safety, Woody Henderson safeguarded the lives and property of his fellow residents by responding to calls and promoting fire safety; and
WHEREAS, an exceptional leader, Woody Henderson was promoted to lieutenant after only one year with the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department; he was promoted to chief in 1993; and
WHEREAS, as chief, Woody Henderson guided the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department through periods of great change and worked to ensure that his firefighters had the tools and training to best serve the community; and
WHEREAS, Woody Henderson is an exemplar of the professionalism and dedication to duty displayed by firefighters and first responders throughout the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, after his well-earned retirement, Woody Henderson plans to seek new opportunities to serve the community and spend more time with his family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Woody Henderson hereby be commended on the occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Fort Lewis Volunteer Fire Department; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Woody Henderson as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his contributions to the Fort Lewis community and best wishes on a happy retirement.
