WHEREAS, Mikey Flint, a high school senior from Salem, has been manager of the Salem High School football team since 2012 and is an inspiration to all who know him; and

WHEREAS, as manager for the state champion Salem High School Spartans football team, Mikey Flint attended practice daily, supporting the players and coaches and helping them on the sidelines as they pursued football excellence; and

WHEREAS, Mikey Flint is a role model for the football team, its coaching staff, and the entire Salem High School community; he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy as an infant, and by the time he was three years old he had undergone six surgeries; and

WHEREAS, as he grew older, Mikey Flint became more mobile and independent and eventually was able to get around without the aid of walkers or canes; he joined the wrestling team at Andrew Lewis Middle School in Salem and won one match; and

WHEREAS, Mikey Flint admits that he faces challenges, but says that he is no different from anyone else, remarking that it is important for him to get out and try day after day; and

WHEREAS, Mikey Flint’s determination to be among the best at his job for the Salem High School football team means that he refuses to give up, nor will he let his disability hold him back; like the rest of the players, he will do whatever it takes to get the job done; and

WHEREAS, during Mikey Flint’s tenure as manager of the Salem High School football team, the Spartans amassed a record of 50 wins and five losses, and they won the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A championship; and

WHEREAS, as a positive influence and role model for the players and coaching staff at Salem High School, Mikey Flint’s steady presence and cheerful conviction that he can do all that is asked of him make the entire team appreciate what they have and not take anything for granted; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Mikey Flint of Salem, team manager for the Salem High School football team for four years, hereby be commended for his outstanding service to the team and for his perseverance and many accomplishments; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mikey Flint as an expression of the House of Delegates’ great respect and admiration for being an outstanding role model for all Virginians.
