WHEREAS, Heidi Ketler was named the 2015 Virginia Cox Conserves Hero for her dedicated volunteer work to preserve the scenic beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway; and

WHEREAS, the Cox Conserves Hero award, presented by Cox Communications and the Trust for Public Land, recognizes volunteers who create, preserve, or enhance outdoor spaces; Heidi Ketler was selected by a panel of judges as a finalist for the award, then won an online vote; and

WHEREAS, the 42nd winner of the award, Heidi Ketler has volunteered more than 2,000 hours to clear trails, clean overlooks, and build community connections on the Blue Ridge Parkway, one of the most visited units in the National Park System and the longest linear park in the country; and

WHEREAS, Heidi Ketler has inspired more than 200 other volunteers to help remove more than 2,500 pounds of trash and 1,800 pounds of recyclables from the Blue Ridge Parkway; and

WHEREAS, as winner of the Cox Conserves Hero award, Heidi Ketler selected the Roanoke Valley Chapter of FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway as the recipient of a $10,000 donation; the Cox Conserves Hero program has awarded more than $500,000 to environmental nonprofit organizations; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Heidi Ketler hereby be commended on being named the 2015 Virginia Cox Conserves Hero for her hard work to protect and preserve the environment around the Blue Ridge Parkway; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Heidi Ketler as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her contributions to the Roanoke Valley and the Commonwealth.
