HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 4 Offered January 13, 2016 Prefiled November 23, 2015 Commending the Central High School girls' basketball team. ---------- Patron-- Kilgore ----------

WHEREAS, the Central High School girls’ basketball team of Wise capped off an undefeated season with its second consecutive state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 2A state championship in 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Central High School Warriors engineered a late-game comeback to defeat the Floyd County High School Buffaloes 63 - 59 in a rematch of the Group 2A West regional game and finish the season with a perfect 29 - 0 record; and

WHEREAS, the Floyd County High School Buffaloes took an early 14 - 0 lead, which they maintained well into the third period; relying on a deep bench, the Central High School Warriors went on a 14 - 0 run of their own to take the lead with 2:59 remaining in the third period; and

WHEREAS, the tense game was tied 50 - 50 at the end of the third period, but the Central High School Warriors hit 12 of 16 free throws in the fourth period to claim victory; the team set a state record for free throws attempted and made, finishing with 31 of 41 overall; and

WHEREAS, Annie Church led the Wise Central High School Warriors with 15 points, followed by Logan Reynolds, the Group 2A Player of the Year, with 14 points, and Sophie Mullins with 13 points and 13 rebounds; and

WHEREAS, the Central High School Warriors’ victory is a testament to the skill and perseverance of the athletes, the able leadership of the coaches and staff, and the passionate support of the entire Central High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Central High School girls’ basketball team hereby be commended on winning the Virginia High School League Group 2A state championship in 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Robin Dotson, head coach of the Central High School girls’ basketball team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s accomplishments.
