HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 35 Offered January 13, 2016 Prefiled December 29, 2015 Commending the Hickory High School gymnastics team. ---------- Patron-- Leftwich ----------

WHEREAS, the Hickory High School gymnastics team claimed its first state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 5A state championship in 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Hickory High School Hawks of Chesapeake scored 141.725 points overall to best Freedom High School, Kellam High School, and Patrick Henry High School in the state team competition in February 2015; and

WHEREAS, the Hickory High School Hawks earned 33.650 points in the uneven bars event, 35.00 points in the balance beam event, 36.975 points in the vault event, and 36.100 points in the floor competition; and

WHEREAS, Haley Cole won the state title in vault and placed second in the all-around at the state individuals competition in March 2015; Sydney Alexander placed second in the vault competition; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the skill and dedication of the athletes—Sydney Alexander, Megan Asbell, Emily Cole, Haley Cole, Sarah Nederstat, Alina Pascale, Ally Weimer, and Sage Wettsine—the leadership of the coaches and staff, and the enthusiastic support of the entire Hickory High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Hickory High School gymnastics team hereby be commended on winning the 2015 Virginia High School League Group 5A gymnastics state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Elyse Sierra, head coach of the Hickory High School gymnastics team, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for the team’s accomplishments.
