WHEREAS, Sergeant John R. Riddle, USA, a patriotic resident of Lee County and a courageous soldier, was killed in action in Vietnam on May 30, 1966; and

WHEREAS, John R. “Swanson” Riddle lived in Dryden and attended Dryden High School; he was proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Riddle served with Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division; and

WHEREAS, after Sergeant Riddle made the ultimate sacrifice on May 30, 1966, he was brought home and laid to rest in Dryden; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Riddle’s service and sacrifice is a reminder of the dangers faced by American men and women in uniform around the world, whose dedication to duty and country places them in harm’s way; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Riddle has been fondly remembered and greatly missed by numerous family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sergeant John R. Riddle, USA, a courageous and patriotic Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant John R. Riddle, USA, as an expression of the House of Delegates’ respect for his memory.
