WHEREAS, Regina Meredith, counseling coordinator at Salem High School who has touched thousands of lives during her career, has been named a Counselor of the Year for 2015 by the Virginia Counselors Association; and

WHEREAS, the award was established in 1981 to honor members of the Virginia Counseling Association who have spent the majority of their careers in guidance or counseling; Regina Meredith, who has been a guidance counselor since 2000, has worked at Salem High School since 2005; and

WHEREAS, Regina Meredith is highly regarded by her peers as an exemplary educator; she is a role model for both students and colleagues for her professionalism, innovation, and her love for and service to other people; and

WHEREAS, stating that it is an honor to be recognized as the Virginia Counselor of the Year, Regina Meredith also said that she loves her work, expressing great appreciation for the support she receives from the administration and staff of Salem High School; and

WHEREAS, Regina Meredith’s career in education began in 1977 when she started teaching English at Carroll County High School; she also worked as a special education teacher in Hillsville, Roanoke, and in Christiansburg, where her counseling career began; and

WHEREAS, Regina Meredith, who earned a bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Radford University, is a National Board Certified Teacher who was Salem High School’s Teacher of the Year in 2012, and also was the Roanoke Area Counseling Association’s Member of the Year in 2014; and

WHEREAS, deeply committed to her students, Regina Meredith is a sterling example of the hard work and compassion shown by educators and administrators throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Regina Meredith hereby be commended for being honored by the Virginia Counselors Association as a Counselor of the Year for 2015; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Regina Meredith as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration and appreciation for her many years of service to students and their families in Salem and the Commonwealth.
