2016 SESSION
16105575DWHEREAS, Alexander Perdue, a student at Salem High School, became the Virginia state champion in geography, winning the 2015 Virginia Finals of the National Geographic Bee; and
WHEREAS, Alexander “Alex” Perdue, who was then an eighth-grade student at Andrew Lewis Middle School, was one of 100 students competing in the state championship, held on March 27, 2015, at Longwood University; and
WHEREAS, after eight preliminary rounds and a tiebreaker session, Alex Perdue was one of 10 students selected as finalists, and he answered numerous challenging geography questions to claim the state title; and
WHEREAS, as a state champion, Alex Perdue qualified for the 2015 National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C., where he competed against 53 other students from the states and territories of the United States; and
WHEREAS, Alex Perdue has honed his skills in geography through his interest in current events and meteorology; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Alexander Perdue hereby be commended on winning the 2015 Virginia Finals of the National Geographic Bee; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Alexander Perdue as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his achievements and best wishes for the future.
