HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 156
Commending Nancy Stafford.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 26, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Nancy Stafford has supported and mentored countless young artists in the Roanoke Valley through her involvement with the Burton Center for the Performing Arts in Salem; and

WHEREAS, starring in numerous movies and television series throughout her 35-year career in acting, Nancy Stafford is best known for her role on Matlock, and she has published two books, The Wonder of His Love: A Journey into the Heart of God and Beauty by the Book: Seeing Yourself as God Sees You; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Stafford is a sought-after speaker at high schools, colleges, churches, businesses, and other organizations; she has appeared at media events and arts schools throughout the Roanoke Valley; and

WHEREAS, particularly active with the Burton Center for the Performing Arts, Nancy Stafford offers her leadership and expertise to the center’s advisory board, and she has served as a speaker, guest artist, and faculty member; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Stafford helped establish one of the first short filmmaking programs in the Commonwealth at the Burton Center for the Performing Arts, and she has mentored aspiring actors on how to get roles, succeed at auditions, and deal with changing situations while on set; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Stafford has given generously of her time and talents to inspire the Commonwealth’s young artists and enhance the cultural life of the Roanoke Valley; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Nancy Stafford hereby be commended for her service to the Burton Center for the Performing Arts in Salem; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Nancy Stafford as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for her contributions to the performing arts in the Roanoke Valley.
