HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 138
Commending Tim Guthrie.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 19, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Tim Guthrie, an outstanding law-enforcement officer, retires as Chief of the Salem Police Department in 2016 after 34 years of diligent work to protect and serve the community; and

WHEREAS, Tim Guthrie began his career with the Salem Police Department in 1981 as a patrol and traffic officer; he later worked in the narcotics division, detective division, and services division, gaining valuable experience that would serve him well as chief; and

WHEREAS, Tim Guthrie rose through the ranks to become a detective, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and major; he was named Chief of the Salem Police Department in December 2014; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure as chief, Tim Guthrie worked to ensure that his officers had the tools and training to best serve the Salem community; he increased the department’s presence in the community and oversaw new hires and promotions to strengthen the department’s future; and

WHEREAS, a native of Roanoke, Tim Guthrie holds a bachelor’s degree from Bluefield College and a master’s degree from Hollins University; he is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico; and

WHEREAS, Tim Guthrie is an exemplar of the dedication, professionalism, and care for the community demonstrated by law-enforcement officers throughout the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Tim Guthrie hereby be commended for his service to the City of Salem on the occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Salem Police Department; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tim Guthrie as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his work to support the officers of the Salem Police Department and keep the community safe.
