HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 137
Commending Jeff Dudley.

 

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 19, 2016

 

WHEREAS, Jeff Dudley, who served and protected the residents of Salem for 37 years as a law-enforcement professional, retired as Chief of the Salem Police Department in December 2014; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of service to the Roanoke Valley community, Jeff Dudley joined the Salem Rescue Squad and began his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher in 1977; and

WHEREAS, within one year, Jeff Dudley had become a police officer and rose through the ranks to become a detective, sergeant, lieutenant, and deputy chief; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Dudley held positions in every division of the Salem Police Department; he especially relished the challenges of working in the detective division and helped solve numerous high-profile cases; and

WHEREAS, admired for his communication skills, Jeff Dudley worked to ensure that the Salem Police Department had the tools and training to serve and protect the city and build trust and respect with community members; and

WHEREAS, Jeff Dudley is an exemplar of the professionalism and dedication to duty displayed by law-enforcement officers and first responders throughout the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement, Jeff Dudley plans to seek new opportunities to serve the Salem community and hopes to travel with his wife, Drema; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That Jeff Dudley hereby be commended for his contributions to the Salem community on the occasion of his retirement as Chief of the Salem Police Department; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Jeff Dudley as an expression of the House of Delegates’ admiration for his service to the City of Salem and the Commonwealth.
