Commending the Salem High School forensics team.

WHEREAS, the Salem High School forensics team of Salem crowned seven individual champions and claimed its 10th consecutive state title, winning the Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship in 2015; and

WHEREAS, facing worthy competitors from 19 other schools from around the Commonwealth, the Salem High School forensics team bested runner-up E.C. Glass High School by an overall score of 46 - 22 and won more than half of the individual events for the eighth time in 10 years; and

WHEREAS, Jack Beedle won the individual title in extemporaneous speaking, Emily Brown won in prose interpretation, Ben Lewis won the poetry event, Jordi Shelton took first place in impromptu speaking, and Emma Studtmann took third place in storytelling; and

WHEREAS, Chris Pope won the individual title in humorous interpretation, giving Salem its seventh consecutive state title in that event, and Lauren Wygal and Monica Sexton repeated as the state champions in the humorous duo event; and

WHEREAS, rounding out the Salem High School forensics team’s impressive overall score, Maya Cooke, Ben Kennedy, Julie McKnew, Isaac Robertson, and Caleb Turner were each named runner-up in their events, and Samantha Kennedy took second place in her event; and

WHEREAS, the victory is a testament to the talent and dedication of the speakers, the enthusiastic leadership of the coaches and advisers, and the energetic support of the entire Salem High School community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Salem High School forensics team on winning the 2014 - 2015 Virginia High School League Group 4A state championship; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Ingerson, head coach of the Salem High School forensics team, as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the team’s many years of exceptional accomplishments.
