Celebrating the life of C. H. Lafoon.

WHEREAS, C. H. Lafoon, a businessman, public servant, and volunteer who made many significant contributions to the Farmville community, died on February 22, 2016; and

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of Farmville, C. H. “Mike” Lafoon graduated from Farmville High School, lettering in football, baseball, and basketball; after graduation, he joined his father’s construction business, where he worked his way up to become estimator and superintendent; and

WHEREAS, from 1948 to 1957, Mike Lafoon served his country as a member of the Virginia National Guard, rising to the rank of master sergeant; and

WHEREAS, Mike Lafoon built a legacy of service to the community through his life membership in the Farmville Jaycees; he helped bring the first Christmas Parade to Farmville, was part of the team that organized and built a Little League baseball field, and was named president of the organization in 1962; and

WHEREAS, as the owner and president of Longwood Realty Company and Coldwell Banker Lafoon Realty, Mike Lafoon was a trusted real estate professional in the area for many years; he served as president of the South Central Board of Realtors in 1970 and was named Realtor of the Year in 1991; and

WHEREAS, desirous to be of further service to the community, Mike Lafoon ran for and was elected to the Farmville Town Council, where he ably represented local residents for 25 years, including two years as vice-mayor; and

WHEREAS, Mike Lafoon worked to strengthen and enhance the community as a member of many other civic and service organizations, including the Farmville Area Development Corporation and the Farmville Chamber of Commerce, and as a board member of several local banks; he enjoyed fellowship and worship with the community at Farmville United Methodist Church; and

WHEREAS, Mike Lafoon will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Jeanne; children, Carlton and Lisa, and their families; and numerous other family members and friends; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of C. H. Lafoon, a respected public servant and community leader in Farmville; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of C. H. Lafoon as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for his memory.
