2016 SESSION
WHEREAS, Rex Parr, a respected businessman, devoted community leader, and passionate advocate for people with disabilities, retired as president and chief executive officer of Didlake, Inc., in Manassas in April 2015; and
WHEREAS, when Rex Parr joined Didlake in 1977, the organization was providing vocational training to 16 people; under his leadership, Didlake has grown to serve more than 2,000 people annually by providing vocational training, behavioral support, community integration, employment services, and direct employment; and
WHEREAS, during Rex Parr’s tenure as president and chief executive officer, Didlake became a major regional employer with more than 1,300 employees, including more than 1,000 employees with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Rex Parr has also been a tireless advocate for people with disabilities and their families at local and state levels, and his expertise is sought by policy makers on a variety of issues; and
WHEREAS, in addition to creating new opportunities for people with disabilities, Rex Parr has worked to strengthen and enhance the Manassas and Prince William County communities as a member and leader of many other civic and service organizations; and
WHEREAS, Rex Parr has increased the quality of life of all local residents through his service with the Prince William Health System board, the Prince William County-Greater Manassas Chamber of Commerce, Prince William County Board of Supervisors, Rotary Club of Manassas, and many other organizations; and
WHEREAS, as a mentor to his peers and other local leaders, Rex Parr has fostered communication and collaboration throughout the community to achieve common goals and advanced the idea that leadership and community service are noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Rex Parr on the occasion of his retirement as president and chief executive officer of Didlake, Inc.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Rex Parr as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for his legacy of service to people with disabilities and their families in Northern Virginia.
