2016 SESSION
16105788DWHEREAS, the Save 50 Task Force, a group of local businesses and organizations in the Dulles South community of Loudoun County, is working to raise awareness of a proposed plan to place high capacity power lines on Route 50, which could disrupt quality of life in the area and adversely impact existing businesses; and
WHEREAS, the plan to place 110-foot towers along Route 50 between Stone Ridge and Poland Road, which would only serve one end user, could harm businesses, create significant risk for helicopter medevac personnel in the area, and diminish future improvements along Route 50; and
WHEREAS, the plan is in opposition to guidelines developed by Loudoun County, which recognized Route 50 as a “gateway” to economic and historic areas in the southern and western parts of the county; and
WHEREAS, local developers, businesses, and homeowners associations on Route 50 have invested significant amounts of time and money to enhance the Route 50 corridor through landscaping initiatives, entry monuments, and identifiable elements and landmarks; and
WHEREAS, the Save 50 Task Force has worked to provide businesses and individuals in the community with more information about the project and create opportunities for them to share their opinions directly with decision makers, as well as develop and propose an alternative route for the project; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Save 50 Task Force for its efforts to raise public awareness of the proposal to place high capacity power lines on Route 50 and develop alternatives to the proposed plan; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Save 50 Task Force as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for the task force’s work to preserve Route 50 as a “gateway” to Loudoun County.
